Every fashion enthusiast rejoices as the first Monday in May lights up their morning with the Met Gala mayhem. The 2025 Met Gala unfolded as a powerful celebration of culture, identity, and style, centred around the exhibition theme Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. Inspired by Monica Miller’s seminal book *Slaves to Fashion*, the exhibition spotlighted the artistry and politics of Black dandyism—where self-fashioning becomes a form of pride and storytelling.

Kylie Jenner was escorted by Ferragamo designer Maximilian Davis, who dressed her in a herringbone halter-neck dress featuring irregular beading detail across the bodice and skirt. The sheer corset bodice embraced the lower waist skirt, cut with a thigh-high slit.

Kim climbed the stairs of the prestigious Metropolitan Museum of Art in a curve-enhancing black leather dress in crocodile skin texture by Chrome Hearts and a matching black hat to reckon with the theme of “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” and the dress code "Tailored for You."

Global sensation Diljit Dosanjh celebrated his Punjabi culture and heritage inspired by the Indian dandy, The Maharaja of Patiala who was known to blend regal tradition with European influences. Prabal Gurung designed an opulent sherwani ensemble bedecked with celestial motifs and regional letters. Styled by Abhilasha Devnani, his rooted and royal interpretation was adorned with jewels by Golecha's Jewels. Iconic, authentic, and a powerful tribute to his cultural legacy.

Gigi Hadid graced the Met Gala in a stunning Miu Miu creation that paid homage to the legendary Joséphine Baker. The look was inspired by a dress originally envisioned by iconic costume designer Zelda Wynn Valdes, who dressed Baker during her celebrated performances in France. Channelling the spirit of old Hollywood glamour with a modern edge, Hadid’s ensemble was both a sartorial tribute and a celebration of Black fashion history.

Mothering— both literally and metaphorically, Rihanna announced her pregnancy at the Met Gala red carpet with an iconic fashion moment. The pop star and Fenty founder showed off her baby bump in a woollen bustier bodysuit, layered by a black cropped jacket, a pinstriped skirt with a bustle.

The classic white shirt made it to the Met, thanks to Hollywood icon Anne Hathaway. Styled by Erin Walsh, the actress chose an ensemble featuring a white anti-fit button-down shirt paired with a sequin-clad striped skirt designed by Wed Gornon for Carolina Herrera. She completed her look with a sleek 60s-inspired hairdo and a statement-making sapphire necklace, paying tribute to the late Vogue editor André Leon Talley and Mrs Herrera.

The Iconic Celebrities' Take on Dandyism

Shakira made a stunning entrance at the Met Gala in a show-stopping pink gown by Prabal Gurung, who also accompanied her on the red carpet. The custom creation featured daring cutouts along the sides and a dramatic voluminous train that swept behind her with effortless glamour. Adding to the allure, she paired the look with sheer black gloves and a pink gemstone pendant necklace that echoed the hue of her dress.

Sabrina Carpenter turned on the glam quotient with her edgy style statement, choosing a Louis Vuitton bodysuit with floor-grazing tail to decode the 'Tailored for You' dictum. Her attention-grabbing take on the dandy tailcoat was an ode to Savile Row featuring Parisian corsetry, finished with crystal buttons.

Whether timeless or theatrical, these looks exemplified the art of dressing for a gala event at its most spectacular. Met Gala 2025 turned heads with iconic ensembles that elevated the meaning of gala dresses and reimagined gala attire.
